CuSP have announced plans to further position copper as the lifeblood of Britain’s future infrastructure in a new whitepaper released today.
Announced on Copper Awareness Day (29th October), the white paper highlights the benefits of copper when used as an essential tool in construction, its contribution to improving sustainability and how it aligns with the Government’s modern industrial strategy.
It also outlines its economic and strategic values including low maintenance costs and its role in supporting local supply chains and jobs.
This timely reminder of the importance of copper comes several months after Chancellor Rachel Reeves announced a landmark, decade long £725bn strategy to upgrade and modernise the UK’s infrastructure.
The government’s plans aim to give greater stability and coordination in how infrastructure in Britain is planned, funded, and delivered.
Oliver Lawton, Co-Founder of CuSP, said: “Copper is the veins and arteries of Britain’s infrastructure due to its wealth of benefits that undoubtably tie into the country’s plans for sustainable economic growth. It’s unmatched performance, durability, and environmental benefits marry perfectly with the government’s ambitions to modernise Britain’s infrastructure.
“Copper Awareness Day gave us the perfect chance to set out this whitepaper and get the nation’s decision makers to stand up and take notice”.
Spearheaded by CuSP, Copper Awareness Day is observed annually each October and comes at a time when achieving a net-zero future by 2030 has become a priority across sectors such as construction, transportation, and energy.
The day allows for raising of awareness of the importance of using sustainable materials to combat the rising prevalence of plastic in construction, which is supported through the sharing of information and resources.
