Copper Sustainability Partnership Launches Awareness Campaign to Curb Plastic Use

A campaign designed to spread awareness about the harmful impact of plastic pollution and showcase alarming statistics on microplastic levels in everyday items has been launched by The Copper Sustainability Partnership (CuSP).

The year-long campaign, titled ‘Would You Trust Plastic With That?’, aims to provoke a conversation about worldwide plastic dependency and the urgent need for systemic change.

The initial phase of the campaign highlights how much plastic is found in our drinking water, with recent research showing that 83% of tap water worldwide has been found to contain microplastics.

Water in plastic bottles can also be a danger, with natural processes like oxidation or solar radiation, as well as everyday wear and tear like the squeezing of a water bottle while taking a sip, seeing particles break away into tiny pieces and enter the atmosphere.

Later phases will showcase how dangerous plastic is to our environment, our overall health and how it could prove detrimental to the planet’s future.

As part of this, CuSP will be developing content across their website, media and their various social channels, which includes them taking to the streets for interviews with the UK public to ask if they really understand the dangerous levels of plastic within our everyday lives.

The launch of the ‘Would You Trust Plastic With That?’ campaign marks a significant step in CuSP’s mission to expose the growing dangers posed by plastic pollution. 2026 also marks CuSP’s fifth anniversary of challenging norms and breaking the mould to achieve greater environmental thinking, using copper as the driving force for a better future.

Andrew Surtees, Co-Founder of CuSP, said: “Our ‘Would You Trust Plastic With That?’ campaign aims to confront the uncomfortable truth in relation to the sheer amount of plastic produced, consumed and discarded across the globe.

“A reality check is sorely needed in how much plastic is damaging our ecosystems, communities, and even our health, so we devised this campaign to get people talking about the need to replace plastic with durable and recyclable materials, such as copper.

“By shining a light on the hidden presence of microplastics in our daily routines, we hope to empower people to make more informed choices and push for meaningful industry-wide change.”

CuSP was created by two competing copper tube manufacturers, Lawton Tubes and Mueller Europe, who have joined forces to promote the environmental benefits of copper and fight back against the plastics greenwash.
